Water Belly (or Ascites) is a serious condition where a chicken has a squishy, swollen belly full of liquid. It affects millions of both layers as well as broilers and meat chickens every year. Liquid accumulates in the abdominal cavity, causing the belly to swell. The chicken’s heart can’t cope with its rapid growth, and increased blood pressure causes fluids to leak into the belly (ascites) and lungs, which can be fatal.
The only thing one can do is to carefully drain the liquid from the abdomen every so often to alleviate the discomfort and allow the chicken to have a (near) normal life. This kit contains everything you’ll need to perform the simply, yet life-saving procedure to temporarily drain Water Belly.
